Coast & Marine Conservation in South Australia
The Coastal Management Branch of DEH is closely involved in the management of marine, coastal and estuarine environments. Specific areas of interest include:
- seagrass protection and restoration work
- reef health assessments
- beach protection and management
- identification and protection of scenic areas
- revegetation and weed eradication programs
- the impacts of climate change and sea level rise, and its effect on coastal processes
- the assessment and protection of biodiversity in coastal and marine systems (particularly in mangrove and salt marshes, dune and cliff top areas)
- the identification and management of coastal acid sulfate soils
- a variety of community education programs.
These programs contribute to Henry’s welfare by maintaining the health of marine and coastal ecosystems ensuring he has a clean, wide beach to lounge upon and a healthy environment to swim in.
