Coast & Marine Conservation in South Australia

The Coastal Management Branch of DEH is closely involved in the management of marine, coastal and estuarine environments. Specific areas of interest include:

  • seagrass protection and restoration work
  • reef health assessments
  • beach protection and management
  • identification and protection of scenic areas
  • revegetation and weed eradication programs
  • the impacts of climate change and sea level rise, and its effect on coastal processes
  • the assessment and protection of biodiversity in coastal and marine systems (particularly in mangrove and salt marshes, dune and cliff top areas)
  • the identification and management of coastal acid sulfate soils
  • a variety of community education programs.

These programs contribute to Henry’s welfare by maintaining the health of marine and coastal ecosystems ensuring he has a clean, wide beach to lounge upon and a healthy environment to swim in.

For details on these programs, see
